Dermody (typography, Dublin Institute of Design) and Breathnach, a professor of history of design, divide their brightly illustrated book into two main sections. The first follows the history of technological developments that facilitated the production of prints for various purposes in the Early Modern period. They also discuss the revivals of the 1880s, particularly Gothic. The second section is arranged by forms of design.
