This book was written in 1998. The author was a young student then, who finished her fieldwork in India. Her reports, letters and experiences formed the groundwork for her book. The material has not been rewritten. It is authentic and must be read through the eyes of a twenty year old. It won the prize of best study in Social Sciences. This book is published by Eburon Academic Publishers for fieldworkers, researchers and students who go abroad and are in search of a method to write about their experiences. This book is an example of bridging the gap between theory and practice, and of building a bridge between the home country and the foreign country. About the author: Dr. Deirdre Beneken genaamd Kolmer is professor in the field of family care at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. She also works at Tilburg University, where she finished her PhD 'Family care and care responsibility: the art of meeting each other', in 2007. Before that, she studied Pedagogical and Educational Sciences at Radboud University Nijmegen and Social Work at Avans University of Applied Sciences. In former years, she worked in child and family psychiatry and as an educationalist, she is specialized in philosophy of education. She introduced a relational approach in the field of family care, which is one of her main topics in her many lectures, articles and books.
