In all parts of the world death always catches up with the living, however, in this area of northwestern France death offers a three-day truce every year, respecting the traditional banquet held annually by the Brotherhood of the Gravediggers. Enard returns to his native France with a novel that flows and turns like the wheels of life; it pulls the threads of the story and its multiple characters in a narrative spider web where different times, spaces, and living beings -that inhabit or once inhabited the place- converge.
