Waar gaat het over?

Bereavement is generally regarded to be one of the most stressful events in adult life, but is also one of the most common. It is estimated that 15 to 20% of all bereaved do not, or only partially recover from the loss. However, most reserach in this area has hitherto concentrated on the widowed, and much less on the consequences for other family members. This book reflects the results of the Leiden Bereavement Study, which makes an elaborate comparison between the consequences of death of a spouse, a child, a sibling, or a parent, while taking into account the cause of death. Here, next to this comparison, some answers are provided to important questions, like: 'Which early symptoms indicate future problems in adaptation? and 'Which bereaved are vulnerable to long-lasting health problems and social dysfunction?'.
