The succession of wars and persecution that marked the first six decades of the twentieth century caused great upheavals for Helen Butterworth's maternal ancestors. They were Greeks from Asia Minor, and they had to abandon their homes time after time and start a new life wherever they were offered refuge. For different reasons, mainly due to lack of opportunity, some members of her father's family also emigrated from Greece, seeking a more comfortable life abroad. Helen came to England from Egypt in 1944 and here she looks back over her eventful life and tells the story of her family's struggle to find stability and peace in a war-torn world.
