The one hundred art objects and utensils that are described and depicted here exemplify the beauty and diversity of Native American art, and demonstrate the way these traditions have been passed on from one generation to the next.\nThe book focuses on seven of these traditions, each one linked to a specific region: porcupine quill embroidery from the Great Lakes region, historical paintings from the prairies of the Midwest, pottery from the Pueblos in the Southwest, weaving from the Navajo in Arizona and New Mexico, baskets from California, wood-carvings from the Northwest Coast, and Inuit sculpture from the Arctic North.\nObjects made many centuries ago are presented alongside works by present-day Native American artists who strive to preserve and disseminate indigenous art and culture. Each object tells its own personal story, one that is inextricably bound up with the maker's life and culture.
