Waar gaat het over?

The fascination for the unconventional work of South African performance artist Robin Rhode (born in 1976 in Cape Town) continues to increase after his participation in exhibitions in Europe, the US, and Africa. He has a unique way of appropriating signs of big city life and everyday events in Johannesburg. The connection of drawing and performance results in an effect that can be, among other things, grotesque: for instance, when Rhode draws a car on a wall and then attempts to break into it with a crowbar. The drawn space becomes reality because the artist elevates it to reality.nIn 2005 Rhode's work was featured at the Venice Biennial and at the MoMA in New York, and now the artist can finally be discovered in Germany. nThis opulently illustrated volume is the first to offer a representative cross-section of his oeuvre, including a series of work realized for the Haus der Kunst in Munich. The book focuses on large drawings as well as new sculptural works, as well as photo, film, and video works.
