His spectrum ranges from reduction of the subject to essential details, to opulently staged scenes in vivid color. A particularly remarkable aspect of Wartenberg's work is his unique sense of color and special effects, which he creates through masterful use of lighting manipulated with the sensitivity of a painter. He also employs a diverse selection of technical approaches, including 35mm shots "on location", medium- or large-format work in the studio, and Polaroid 50 x 60 exposures. Only his finished photos are digitized, and he employs the process for the purposes of communication and further processing only.
